About The Notions Room

Welcome to The Notions Room!

My name is Susan, and I've been sewing for over 30 years. What began as a hobby quickly became a lifelong passion. Over the years, I've sewn everything from everyday clothing and professional office wear to hats, bags, and countless creative projects. Sewing has always been more than just making things—it's been a way to express creativity, solve problems, and create something truly unique.

When Fabricland stopped carrying many of the pattern brands that Canadian sewists have relied on for generations—including Simplicity, Vogue, Butterick, McCall's, Burda, and New Look—I was disappointed, just like many others in the sewing community. Finding quality sewing patterns suddenly became much more difficult, especially through local fabric stores.

As a sewist myself, I saw an opportunity to help fill that gap.

The Notions Room was created to provide sewists across Canada with access to the trusted pattern brands they know and love. My goal is to make it easy for beginners and experienced makers alike to find inspiration, discover new projects, and access the tools they need to bring their ideas to life.

Beyond sewing, I am also a Project Management professional and a proud 10-year cancer survivor. Those experiences have taught me resilience, determination, and the importance of pursuing what brings joy and purpose to life. Building The Notions Room combines my love of sewing with my desire to serve a community that has given me so much over the years.

Whether you're making your first garment, creating a special gift, or continuing a lifelong sewing journey, I'm glad you're here.

Thank you for supporting a Canadian small business and for helping keep the art of sewing thriving for future generations.

Happy Sewing!
